The Yaesu FTA-250L is an extremely affordable, compact (COMM ONLY) Airband transceiver.

Featuring an extremely rugged Polycarbonate housing with an IPX5 Waterproof rating for use in harsh environments with rain, splash and spray. Loud 700mW audio output guarantees that radio calls will not be missed even in noisy environments. 8.33kHz Narrow Band capable, with a huge programmable 250 channel capacity memory bank.

The FTA-250L comes programmed with Yaesu's exclusive E2O Easy to Operate menu system making the radio a pleasure to operate without the use of a manual. The intuitive operating system is further complimented by the high resolution Dot Matrix display and the bright, fully Lit, sunlight viewable backlight.

Now Meets MIL-STD-810F

The FTA-250L has now been tested and complies with the Military Standard MIL-STD-810F. Similar to commercial Land Mobile radios, all current Yaesu Airband Transceivers have been tested for durability against Low temperatures, High temperatures, Shock, Vibration, Dust and Rain, ensuring many years of rugged use.

Compact size

In response to the huge demand for a compact Airband transceiver, Yaesu has responded with our smallest airband transceiver yet, at only (2.1" W x 4.1" H x 1.2" D) the FTA-250L is guaranteed to fit in the smallest of places.

Aviation Radio - The Basics

The Civil Aviation aircraft band is split into two segments. Air to Air and Air to Ground communications are in the 118.00-136.975MHz range and are divided into channels each 8.33KHz wide since 2018. Before this, the divisions were wider, meaning in some busier areas, the available channels were full. Changing the entire system, world wide was done and now more frequencies are available.

The downside to this is that radio equipment produced for the old system does not have the ability to tune the correct frequencies and each country require aviators to only use new equipment. While the aircraft fitted radios got changed as a priority, many pilots want a backup that can be kept for emergencies of convenience.

The other part of the band, from 108.00MHz to 117.95MHz is used for navigation aids, in particular the VOR system where ground based beacons broadcast their location, and suitably equipped radios can receive these signals and display them in a compass style.

Not all radios feature the navigation capability - our FTA-550AA is designed to run on ordinary AA cells, so ideal for emergency use and it features both VOR and ILS capability.

The FTA-250L does not feature the navigation aids and comes with rechargeable batteries for general communications use.
